Akasa Air, the India’s newest low cost-airline has recently gone viral for its new uniform. It came into the news before taking its first flight takes off. Akasa Air released the first look of its airline crew uniform which puts comfort first. The new uniform looks classy and comfortable in soft colour combos including black, white and blue for pilots, and orange and black for the cabin crew. However, it’s the comfy sneakers and shoes that grabbed the attention on social media. The trousers and jackets made from recycled marine waste, while their sneakers will have soles carved from recycled rubber.

Designed by Rajesh Pratap Singh, the jacket draws inspiration from the Indian bandh gala and is forward-looking in a modern version of the garment”. It further said, “Given the mobile lifestyle of crew members and long hours spent standing, Vanilla Moon designed sneakers that are light, and contain extra cushioning from heel to toe to ensure better support. In line with Akasa Air’s approach towards sustainability, the sole of the sneakers is carved from recycled rubber and manufactured without any use of plastic”.

Rajesh Pratap Singh, who has created uniform for Akasa Air has said that “These uniforms are a perfect amalgamation of style and sustainability and reflect Akasa Air’s core values. From concept to the final outcome, it has been an exciting journey for me to work on these designs and present one of the most unique, sustainable, and functional uniforms of our times”.


According to Deepika Mehra, Founder of Vanilla Moon has shared that design of shoe and shared the view by saying that she is very much delighted to produce sustainably, functional, gender-neutral, and contemporary way. The statement reads, “The design also reflects Akasa Air’s employee-centric culture to ensure their comfort”.
The airline was praised by many on the Internet, including Jet Airways CEO Sanjiv Kapoor, for its youthful and easy clothing style.
Billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Akasa Air on Thursday got the air operator certificate (AOC or license) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). According to the airline, it will commence commercial operations later this month with two aircraft and subsequently add planes to its fleet every month. Akasa Air will join the likes of IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Vistara, AirAsia India, SpiceJet and Go First.
