കാൽ മുറിക്കണമെന്നു ഡോക്ടർമാർ പലതവണ നിർദേശിച്ചപ്പോഴും അഷ്റഫ് കാലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു. കാലേ, നിന്നെ സൈക്കിളിൽ ഇന്ത്യ മുഴുവൻ കാണിച്ചിട്ടേ ഞാൻ മുറിച്ചു മാറ്റൂ.
അഷ്റഫ് വാക്ക് പാലിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ചലനശേഷിയില്ലാത്ത വലതു കാൽപത്തിയുമായി കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നു 4200 കിലോമീറ്റർ സൈക്കിൾ ചവിട്ടി ലഡാക്കിലെ ഖർദുംഗല എന്ന തന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലെത്തി അഷ്റഫ് പറയുന്നു. നാട്ടിലെത്തിയാൽ മുറിച്ചു മാറ്റി നല്ലൊരു കൃത്രിമക്കാൽ വയ്ക്കും.
വടക്കാഞ്ചേരി പാർളിക്കാട് തെക്കേപ്പുറത്തുവളപ്പിൽ മുഹമ്മദ് അഷ്റഫാണ് അപകടത്തിൽ അറ്റുപോയതിനാൽ തുന്നിച്ചേർത്ത കാൽപാദവുമായി കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ലഡാക്ക് വരെ സൈക്കിൾ ചവിട്ടി പോയത്. 2 തവണ കോവിഡ് ശക്തമായ ആസ്മ, ന്യുമോണിയ ഇവയെല്ലാം അതിജീവിച്ചായിരുന്നു യാത 2017 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 27നുണ്ടായ അപകടമാണു വലതുകാൽപാദം തകർത്തത്.
അന്നേ ലഡാക്ക് യാത്ര അഷ്റഫിന്റെ മനസ്സിലുണ്ട്. കാൽ മുറിക്കരുതെന്നു ഡോക്ടറോട് അഷ്റഫ് തന്നെ അഭ്യർഥിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു പല ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ നടത്തിയ ശേഷം കാൽ ഏകദേശരൂപം പ്രാപിച്ചു. പക്ഷേ, അധികദൂരം നടക്കാൻ പറ്റില്ല. സഞ്ചരിക്കാൻ സൈക്കിൾ ആയി ആ ഊട്ടി, കൊടൈക്കനാൽ മലകൾ ചവി ട്ടിക്കയറി ആത്മവിശ്വാസം നേടി. ആറുമാ സം മുൻപു കാൽ വീണ്ടും പ്രശ്നമായി. ഒരു അസ്ഥി തൊലിതുളച്ചു പുറത്തു വരുന്ന സ്ഥിതിയായി. അന്നും കാൽ മുറിക്കാനായിരുന്നു ഡോക്ടർമാരുടെ ഉപദേശ പക്ഷേ, സുഖം പ്രാപിച്ചയുടൻ അഷ്റ ഫ് സൈക്കിളിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ പര്യടനം തുടങ്ങി. മൂത്തു വ്ലോഗ്സ് എന്ന യുട്യൂബ് ചാനലിലൂടെ യാത്ര രേഖയാക്കി.
ജൂലൈ 19നു തൃശൂർ വടക്കുന്നാഥൻ ക്ഷേത്രമുറ്റത്തു നിന്നു യാത്ര തുടങ്ങിയ അഷ്റഫ് ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 30നാണു ജമ്മുവിൽ എത്തിയത്. അവിടെ നിന്നു 12 ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് ലഡാക്കിലെ ഖർദുംഗലാ പാസി ലെത്തി. (17:982 അടി ഉയരം)
സൈക്കിളിൽത്തന്നെ തിരിച്ചു കേരളത്തിലെത്തും.
“My disability is my ability and I want to show the world that nothing is impossible,” says 35-year-old Mohammad Ashraf. While his right leg is paralysed, Ashraf says that is no deterrent and he has proved it by reaching Ladakh. Ashraf hit the road on July 15 from his hometown Thrissur to Ladakh on his cycle.
The 35-year-old, who worked as a computer engineer in Dubai, met with an accident in 2017 and was severely injured. He was treated at three hospitals and underwent several surgeries, but his right leg was damaged beyond repair. Ashraf wouldn’t let that stop him.
Ashraf took to cycling in April last year to beat depression after his accident. “I am in extreme pain. If I do this at my worst point, I can achieve anything after I get a better life,” he says. Ashraf has cycled to many of south India’s hills and peaks over the past year and a half. “My cycle and luggage are my only companions,” he says. The odds are formidable. He can only use his left leg while riding, as his right foot has no bone. He can’t walk without the help of a walking stick because of pain and he takes painkillers. He wraps his right leg with a plastic bag while riding in cold areas, as the cold is dangerous for what remains of his leg. Ashraf wants to have his right leg completely amputated once the trip is done & fix a prosthetic leg.
